The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of police in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province arrested 13 terrorists during separate intelligence-based operations, the CTD said.
The arrested men included three high-profile terrorist commanders belonging to the banned outfit Islamic State, the CTD said in a statement on Saturday, adding that the operations were conducted in various districts of the province.
The department said the terrorists were planning to carry out terrorist activities in the province, highlighting that the timely action by the police prevented the province from a major disaster.
"CTD has been working towards the goal of a safer Punjab and authorities are determined to root out the scourge of terrorism," the CTD statement said.
The CTD personnel also seized a cache of weapons, including improvised explosive devices, detonators, and explosives during the operations.
Police have registered separate cases against the arrested terrorists, who have been shifted to an unknown location for further investigation.
