The death sentence of a Nepali in Malaysia has been commuted to imprisonment. Suraj Devsah Teli of Gobindapur in Dhanusha district, who went to Malaysia for foreign employment, was arrested in December 2016 on the charge of killing in the line of duty. He was sentenced to death by the Epo High Court of Malaysia.
Regarding the verdict and the death penalty, the Malaysian Court of Appeal in Putrajaya changed his crime and imposed a 12-year prison term. According to the Nepalese Embassy in Malaysia Suraj Dev Sah Teli will return to Nepal after completing the rest of his sentence.
