First death from Omicron reported in UK

Nepal's Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Sunday reported 1,688 new cases of coronavirus infection.

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson on Monday confirmed that at least one person had died as a result of the Omicron variant in the UK. At least one patient has been confirmed dead in hospital due to the Omicron variant, "the prime minister said during a visit to a vaccination clinic in Paddington, west London.

Earlier, British Health Secretary Sajid Javid had said that 10 people from Omicron were in the hospital. The hospital had warned that the death toll could rise. According to the UK Health Security Agency, he is between 18 and 85 years old. Infections are doubling every two to three days. The rate of spread is "something we've never seen before," he said.

A total of 54,661 new coronavirus cases were reported in the UK yesterday, bringing the total to 10.9 million, according to official figures released on Monday. During the same period, 36 people died due to coronavirus infection. At the same time, 46,477 people have died in the UK from coronavirus. 7,372 people are still being treated in hospitals in the UK.
