Nepal on Thursday reported 35 more deaths from COVID-19 of which 26 persons died in the past 24 hours. With this, the nationwide death toll from the infection has reached 3,246.

As COVID-19 is resurfacing like a tsunami in India, it has directly impacted Nepal too. The new variant double mutant known as B.1.167 has totally collapsed the health care system of India. To curb the spread of this variant mutation virus which is also collapsing health care facilities of Nepal, Kathmandu valley and other districts have imposed a prohibitory order for almost 15 days. This variant is lethal to all age groups causing a higher fatality rate.

Last year, Nepal reported a low fatality of COVID-19 but the new virus has devastated the health care system where a high amount of oxygen is needed. Due to lack of oxygen, many people have succumbed to COVID-19 due to this variant virus.

Nepal reported its first death on May 16, 2020, who was a 29-year-old woman.

As of now, Nepal is witnessing a daily record of deaths due to COVID-19.

For the past few days, Nepal is seeing almost 25-30 deaths per day.

Meanwhile, Nepal's fatality rate stands at 2.1 per cent.
