Due to non-payment of health insurance on time in District Hospital Taplejung, there has been a problem in service delivery and it has become difficult to purchase medicines and other necessary materials.

Subas Acharya, a member of the hospital management committee, informed that the laboratory and pharmacy services of the district hospital have been closed for not paying 56 lakh for health insurance. He said that the pharmacy and lab services operated by the hospital will be closed if the hospital operation committee does not receive the funds from the health insurance board on time. The pharmacy and lab service committee is running itself by managing the manpower in the district contract.

According to Vijaya Rai, acting head of the district hospital, the hospital has yet to receive Rs 56 lakh 78 thousand for insurance. In the financial year 2078/79, Rs. 43 lakh 45 thousand were demanded and Rs. 5 lakh 45 thousand were paid. The hospital said that none of the demands for the current year 2079/79 have been paid. According to Rai, until the end of January of the current year, the amount of Rs. 1.8 lakh 77 thousand for health insurance is yet to be received.

If the insurance amount is not paid on time, the health insurance service will be stopped. Adding further, he said, "The Health Insurance Board has promised to pay soon. If payment is not made on time, health services will be affected.”
