Chairperson of the Commission on Landless Squatters, Devi Prasad Gyawali, has announced that all landless people would get the land in one-and-half year. "Agreement has been made with all 753 local levels to solve the problems of landless people," he said, adding that Commission was working actively to ensure land to all landless households within timeframe.
Chairperson Gyawali was saying it while speaking at a programme organized by the district chapter of the Commission at Phidim on Saturday. It would take more than a year to accomplish the task because the number of people in unmanaged settlement was more than those without having their own lands. He shared that although the Commission had estimated the total 1300,000 landless and unmanaged dwellers combined, it later rose to some 2.1 million.
"Among the total occupied land, 25 percent were not registered, thereby causing loss to the State," he said, adding that it has further deprived the land users of their right to land ownership.
Similarly, Commission member Gopal Guragain pointed out the need that all sectors should extend cooperation to the local and district committees to solve the problems facing the landless people.
