Gandaki Province Governor Sita Kumari Poudel has said that role of women representing Dalit communities is crucial for developing an equitable society. The Province Chief said so while inaugurating a capacity building programme organised for Dalit women ward members of the local levels and office-bearers of the district coordination committee here Monday.
She also said that the caste-based discrimination existing between humans has already ended legally adding that the country was declared untouchability-free some 15 years ago and legal provisions have also been put in place.
Governor Poudel was of the view that the Dalit people’s representatives should ensure their meaningful participation while formulating plans at the local levels for the promotion of the Dalit community that suffered exclusion for centuries.
Chief of Kaski District Coordination Committee, Bain Bahadur Chhetri, stressed the need for massive public awareness to end all sorts of discrimination including inhumane practices like untouchability.
Likewise, Chief District Officer Thaneshwor Gautam said that the people’s representatives should work for social transformation through the use of their rights.
In the two-day-long event, a total of Dalit people’s representatives from 72 wards of Kaski have taken part.
