TEHRATHUM: A 23-year-old woman and a 13-year-old girl tragically died after slipping into a river while recording a TikTok video in Tehrathum.

According to police, the incident occurred as they were filming near the riverbank.

On Saturday afternoon, Rabina Rajbanshi, a 23-year-old nurse at Gaukhuri Secondary School in Menchhyayem Rural Municipality-5, and Sushmita Bhattarai, a 13-year-old grade 7 student from the same school, went to a nearby river to make a TikTok video.

Unfortunately, they lost their footing and fell into the water.

Kamal Sapkota, the Vice Principal of the school, explained that the two had gone to the Khorangwa River to enjoy their holiday when the accident occurred.

The pair slipped while filming on the riverbank and were swept away by the current.

The bodies of the victims, which had been carried downstream, were recovered later that evening.

District Police Office Chief Chinimaya Tamang confirmed that the bodies would be handed over to the families on Sunday.
