Workshop on promoting rights of LGBTI Communities

Various speakers have voiced for greater advocacy for the marginalised communities including LGBTI to enjoy the constitutionally-bestowed fundamental rights of the citizens. 

At a workshop 'Rights of LGBTI Community' organized by Community Solution Initiatives (CSI) Nepal in Dhangadhi on Friday, Deputy Mayor of Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City, Sushila Mishra Bhatta, shared a vision and commitment to lend support to LGBTI communities to bring them to the mainstream. 

Chairperson of Blue Diamond Society Dhangadhi, Raju Lama said the LGBTI community people are facing myriads of challenges on different fronts which have impeded them from enjoying civic rights. 

Also speaking on the occasion, Chairperson of Rural Development and Research Centre, Dhangadhi Dirgha Raj Upadhyaya and governance activist Thakur Prasad Kariyapradhan also echoed the need of addressing problems facing by minorities and disadvantaged communities including LGBTI to enable them to assert and enjoy their human rights. 

Participants mainly representing LGBT communities from Sudurpaschim Province, elected representatives of Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City, media workers, and women networks actively participated in the workshop, shared Saroj Bista, the facilitator of the event. 

The participants also highlighted the need to put further advocacy efforts to mainstream the participation of LGBTI community in the governance process at the local level. 

The Community Solution Initiatives is a community of lawyers, activists and researchers who believe the law can be a powerful tool in breaking the cycle of marginalization and advancing social justice.
