Nepal today confirmed two new cases of Omicron of SARS-COV-2 virus, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP). A foreigner along with a Nepali citizen who came in close contact with him tested positive COVID infection of Omicron variant.
Likewise, Health Secretary Dr. Pokharel urged people not to form huge crowds and requested all citizens to adopt health measures as the Omicron virus has been detected in the country. As of now, two patients diagnosed with the new variant are under isolation as per the Government's protocol.
They don't have any serious symptoms right now and are under the strict supervision of health workers. Those 66 people who came in close contact with them are reported COVID negative.
South Africa was the first country to detect this variant on November 24. This virus has spread to more than 50 countries. It is still unclear whether the recent vaccines will be effective against Omicron and World Health Organization (WHO) on November 26 concerned Omicron variant as 'Voice of Concern'.
Scientific facts are being sought about the rate at which the virus is transmitted and the health complications caused by the infection. According to WHO preliminary assumption, Omicron is at high risk in South-East Asia regions. Likewise, India's tally of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 rose from five on Sunday morning to 21 in the evening.
Likewise, the Ministry of Home Affairs banned travel from African nations into Nepal. Chief of the Immigration Department Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said on Sunday that the Home Ministry had decided to prohibit African nationals from entering Nepal due to the risk of a new variant of COVID-19, Omicron.
Meanwhile, 3,437,036 people have been administered the first dose of Covishield vaccines and 2,082,780 have been vaccinated with the booster dose. Likewise, 6,940,787 people have been vaccinated with the first dose of the Vero Cell vaccine while 5,069,914 others have received the second dose as of December 6, 2021, the Ministry's data showed. Likewise, a total of 53,836 persons — 5,969 in Province 1; 6,871 in Province 2; 26,416 in Bagmati Province; 3,391 in Gandaki Province; 5,300 in Lumbini Province, 2,187 in Karnali Province, and 3,702 in Sudurpaschim Province — have been vaccinated with Pfizer vaccines. Meanwhile, 1,573,091 citizens have been inoculated with Janssen and Janssen vaccines across the country
