88 cases of human rights violation reported in a year in Siraha

SIRAHA: The informal Sector service Centre (INSEC) has showed the record of 88 cases of human rights violation in 2024 AD. During a review programme of 'Human Rights Yearly Book-2025 AD', on Saturday, the INSEC highlighted the records of 87 cases, out of 88 cases, committed by non- state sides and one case by the state side.

According to the district representative of INSEC, Durga Pariyar, such cases include rape, murder, polygamy, domestic violence and so on. Paryiar added 13 young girls have been victim of rape while 6 girls have been sexually harassed in a period of one year.

Similarly, seven cases of attempt to rape have been reported. Five males and five females have been murdered by their own family members. Seven cases of polygamy occurred in the given period.

The incidences of human rights violation like domestic violence, expulsion, blockade, abatement of suicide, clash etc have been recorded in the district. It is seen that the victims have no faith in judicial committee of local levels.

During the programe, Area Police Office, Lahan's Police Inspector Shiba Kattel said the limited workforce has prevented them from acting rigorously to combat offences including drug smuggling.

Similarly, Madhesh Province Assembly member Rajendra Prasad Chaudhary said the effective implementation of laws is awaited to prevent violence, urging the citizens to amplify their voices for justice.
