The government has allocated a budget of Rs 121.97 billion for the energy sector for fiscal year 2021/22.
The government has announced it will link 629 megawatts of electricity produced by hydropower projects developed by the government and private sector to the national grid in fiscal year 2021/22.
While announcing the budget for fiscal year 2021/22, Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel said that electricity generated by Upper Tamakoshi, Rasuwagadhi, Rahughat and other hydroelectric projects being developed by the government and priivate sector will be linked to the national grid.
Minister Poudel also said that hydropower projects will be encouraged to expedite construction works.
Meanwhile, the government has prioritised the development of semi-reservoir and reservoir-based hydropower projects.
Likewise, an energy efficiency programme has been included in the budget while economically underprivileged citizens will be provided with free electricity installation facility.
