Different political parties have pledged their full support in the disaster preparedness and response works while suggesting the government for effective implementation of the plan of action.

During an interaction programme with the political parties organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs on monsoon-related disaster preparedness and response, the political parties' representatives asked the government to learn from the past as well as form loose networks from central to ward levels.

During the interaction programme, Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane said that the role of political parties will be vital based on their experience in the mobilization of volunteers, public service and grassroots mechanisms.

Recognizing the political parties' suggestion of forming a loose forum, Lamichhane said such a forum could be effective for establishing coordination among three layers of government.

On the occasion, CPN (Unified Socialist) leader and former Minister Dr Gangalal Tuladhar said it was the political parties' responsibility to work in disaster preparedness and response.

Likewise, CPN (UML) leader Kiran Poudel pledged to join hands together with the government in times of crisis. "Political parties are to provide human resources. But, the state should ensure plenty of resources. The disaster work gets effective from the combination of political parties' human resources and the state's other resources," Poudel added.

Similarly, CPN (Maoist Centre)'s In-charge of the Disaster Management Department Surya Subedi viewed to form a desk comprising representatives from all political parties that are good at disaster management and response works.
