The National Folk and Duet Song Academy has launched a campaign of donation collection and relief package distribution to support the artistes hit hard by COVID-19.

In the wake of second wave of COVID-19, the government enforced prohibitory order in many parts of the country including the Kathmandu Valley. Services other than essential ones were forbidden. Duet songs clubs (Dohori sanjh) and huge gatherings and fairs were prohibited.

As a result, many artistes lost their jobs and additional income source. The Academy aimed to provide food items to those artistes infected with COVID-19 or facing financial constraints due to the ongoing pandemic.

The Academy has launched the campaign ‘You save yourself from infection; We save you from hunger’ and has been providing relief packages to singers, musicians, technicians and models, said Academy’s central president Ramesh BG.

Academy’s central advisor Prithivi Thakali has provided food items worth Rs 700,000 to distribute to COVID-19 hit artistes, shared BG, adding that so far 500 such artists have been provided with relief packages worth Rs 1.2 million.

Outgoing president of the Academy Badri Pangeni shared that the relief package campaign would be launched in all districts so as to reach out to as many as artistes who were bearing the brunt of COVID-19 and prohibitory order put in place to contain the pandemic.
