A criminal case has been registered against Narottam Baidya, a Nepali Congress lawmaker of the National Assembly of Bagmati Province. The case was filed by members of the CPN UML at the District Police Office, Makawanpur, today.
While speaking during the announcement of the policies and programmes of the provincial government, Baidya had stated that he would prefer to be like Nathuram Godse against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. After receiving flak from different quarters, Baidya has already apologised at the National Assembly on Saturday. There were also calls for him to be booked under a criminal offence.
Baidya had claimed that a criminal case could not be registered against him as he had spoken based on the freedom to speech guaranteed by Article 187 of the Constitution of Nepal.
