The recently constructed dam of the Likhu 4 Hydropower Project has broken. The dam of the hydropower project that is being built on the river bordering Ramechhap and Okhaldhunga districts collapsed during test transmission on Friday morning.
The Likhu 4 is a 52.4-megawatt run-of-river hydroelectric project along Likhu River and is located around 220 km from Kathmandu.
The dam of the Likhu 4 hydropower project, which is nearly about completed, broke when water was added to the reservoir on Thursday. More than 90 per cent of the construction work of the project has already been completed.
The hydropower project is being developed with an investment of Rs 10.16 billion. Seventy-five per cent of the investment is being borne by Nabil Bank, Sunrise Bank, Laxmi Bank, Global IME Bank, Nepal SBI Bank, Sanima Bank, and Prabhu Bank. Meanwhile, Triveni Group and Vishal Group will be investing the remaining 25 per cent.
Construction of the project should have been completed by August of 2021 but it has been delayed due to various reasons.
