Sputnik V vaccine approved for use

As the country witnesses a rise in the number of people being infected by the coronavirus, the Department of Drug Administration (DDA) has issued a notice to all concerned authorities that conditional permission has been granted for 'Emergency Use Authorisation' of Gam-COVID-Vac combination vector vaccine to prevent coronaviral infection caused by the SARS-COV-2 Virus.

The SPUTNIK-V vaccine is manufactured by FSBI NF Gamaleya National Research Centre of Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Ministry of Health, Russia (Medagamal branch of FSBI NF Gamaleya, National Research Centre for Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Ministry of Health) Russia, under production unit JSC GENERIUM, Russia.

The decision to allow the emergency use of the Russian vaccine was made by the department on April 20.
