KATHMANDU: Altogether 3,191 students from 24 remote districts who are studying in the federal capital, Kathmandu, have been provided with electric cooking stoves.

The Alternative Energy Promotion Centre distributed the eco-friendly and energy-efficient stoves to the students hailing from remote parts of the country and studying in Kathmandu in rented places.

Students pursuing studies in Bachelors or above benefitted from the government's scheme, the Centre said.

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Deepak Khadka inaugurated another round of electric stove distribution campaign amid a programme at his office today. Minister Khadka expressed confidence that this scheme would aid in promotion and expansion of renewable energy besides providing support to the students from geographically remote places.

Khadka also believed that it would increase the domestic consumption of the domestically produced electricity apart. Though little, it also contributes to achieve the pledges on climate actions, according to him.

He instructed the Centre to give continuity to the campaign like this. Stating that Nepal was making significant strides in the energy sector, he proudly shared that Nepal has been exporting locally produced energy in the international market at present. Khadka reminded the government's ambitious goal of generating 28,500 megawatt of electricity within 10 years.

Similarly, Secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Suresh Acharya appreciated the objectives met by the Centre.

He argued that the electric cooking stoves had made an important contribution for increasing energy consumption and for promoting clean energy.
