First dose of vaccines to be administered from Tuesday

Vaccination to be administered across country with Vero Cell from China, Johnson & Johnson from the US

The government is set to administer the first dose of vaccines against COVID-19 from Tuesday.

The vaccines — Vero Cell from China and Johnson & Johnson from the US — would be administered in all 77 districts from Tuesday, said Director General of the Department of Health Service under the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr Dipendra Raman Singh.

The Department has separated the targeted groups to vaccinate the Vero Cell and Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Vero Cell vaccine will be administered to all citizens from 55 years and above, Dr Singh said. Likewise, Professors, teachers, employees, drivers and helpers of public transport will also be vaccinated. Vero Cell vaccine will be administered to those who missed the vaccine, deputed in essential services determined by the government, and others going abroad where the vaccination is mandatory.

Likewise, all citizens from 50-54 years, citizens with total and severe disabilities and refugees currently living in Nepal will be administered Johnson & Johnson vaccine which requires only a single dose.

He further said that health workers, sanitation workers and other professionals who missed being vaccinated earlier will also be vaccinated.

Out of the total population of the country, 2,611,807 people have been vaccinated with the first dose while 1,079,192 people have been vaccinated with the booster dose.
