Former Inspector General of Police Sarbendra Khanal has joined CPN-UML. Even though his party entry before the election is to become a candidate in the election, it has not been decided yet where he will stand. Although his home district is Tanhu, there have been discussions about him being picked up from districts like Bara and Parsa, where he worked as a police officer.
After Khanal was made IGP, Ramesh Kharel, who resigned and started the party, is also contesting the elections.
