Police in Jhapa district on Tuesday night arrested a man in possession of 47.530 grams of heroin from Radhe hotel and lodge in Damak Municipality-1. Police also seized eight counterfeit notes of Rs 1,000 denomination from him.
The arrested has been identified as Purna Bahadur Baniya (32), a resident of the same municipality in Beldangi-3.
Acting on a tip-off, security personnel deployed from the Damak-based Area Police Office nabbed Baniya in possession of the substance and counterfeit notes from the same hotel. Baniya was peddling the heroin from the hotel room.
Further investigation into the case is underway, informed District Police Office, Jhapa.
Meanwhile, police in Parsa district on Wednesday morning arrested three persons in possession of almost 700 gm of marijuana from Partewasugauli Rural Municipality-4.
The arrestees have been identified as Ramesh Giri (35), a resident of Pokhariya Municipality-1 while the names of the other two have not been disclosed.
Security personnel deployed from the Partewasugauli-based Area Police Office, nabbed them with the substance during a routine vehicle check when the accused were riding on a motorcycle with vehicle registration number NA 9 PA 9907.
Further investigation on this matter is underway, said the police.
