Incessant downpour led to the death of four people in Itahari Sub-metropolitan city. Of them three have been identified as Santosh Tiwari, 28, and Roshan Budhathoki, 21, of Itahari-2 and Chandramani Kafle, 72, of Itahari-5.

One adult victim is not yet identified, said Area Police Office Itahari. Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City has announced to hand over Rs. 25,000 each as immediate relief to the bereaved family.

''This will not compensate for the huge loss but is part of expression of our empathy towards the bereaved families'', said Laxmi Gautam, the Deputy Mayor of Itahari.

This is the second biggest casualty in the floods and inundation in Itahari to date. Previously, on 11 August 2017, six people were killed at Itahari-4, Gairigaun.

''I have known Itahari for more than three decades, such incidents have not happened in this town so far as my memory is concerned'', said Badri Bhikhari, a local poet of the city. He added, ''This incident has its roots to haphazard urbanization and the loss of open space enveloped by concrete structures and encroachments of rivulets by increasing inhabitants.''
