Four persons reportedly involved in child marriage in Hanuman Kankalini Municipality-14 of Saptari district were arrested, on Monday.
The arrestees have been identified as a 15-year-old bride, her mother, Binod Sutiya(43), the groom from Tirhut Rural Municipality-3, and Rameshwor Sharma(67), the person who arranged the marriage.
Acting on the tip-off that child marriage was taking place on Monday night, a team of police deployed from Rampurmalhaniya-based police post arrested the four allegedly involved in the unlawful act, according to police.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the case is underway.
Marriage below the age of 20 years is a criminal offense in Nepal, and those involved in arranging such marriages are penalised with fines not exceeding Rs 30,000 and a maximum of three-year imprisonment.
