Ghandruk Jeep Accident Update: Eight killed, one rescued

Eight people including the driver died on the spot when a Ghandruk-bound jeep met with an accident at Kaldanda of Annapurna Rural Municipality-11 in Kaski district today afternoon.

According to the Province Police Office, Gandaki, one person travelling on that ill-fated jeep (Ga 1 Ja 6900), was rescued safely and his condition is normal.

The driver who died in the accident has been identified as Khusiman Chettri (42) of Nayapul in Annapurna Rural Municipality-5. Similarly, other deceased have been identified as Jinlab Ghising (18) of Gongabu in Kathmandu district and Suja Chaudhary (24) from the same locality, Liza Chaudhary (20); Suman Chaudhary (20); Achyutam Kafle (22); Ashish Ale (18) of Gongabu in Kathmandu district. Binaya Chettri (27) of Gorkha but temporarily staying in Gongabu in Kathmandu, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shrawan Kumar BK.

The Injured in the incident has been identified as Devika Ghising (20) of Gongabu in Kathmandu district. She has injuries on her left hand and nose. Her condition is normal, added DSP BK.

Devika was found hanging off a cliff. The police personnel in coordination with locals had rescued her.

The incident took place when the jeep coming from Pokhara went in reverse in the steep hill at 1:30 pm, police said. The jeep lost its control suddenly and fell some 200 metres off the Ghumti Road at Kalabhir cliff, added District Police Office, Kaski’s DSP Subash Hamal.
