The government of Nepal has announced a public holiday tomorrow on the occasion of the Chhath festival.
The festival mainly is celebrated across southern parts of Nepal. Prayers during Chhath puja are dedicated to the solar deity, Surya (God of the sun), to show gratitude and thankfulness for bestowing the bounties of life on earth.
It is celebrated six days after Diwali, on the sixth day of the lunar month of Karthika (October–November) in the Hindu calendar Vikram Samvat. They include holy bathing, fasting, and abstaining from drinking water (vrata), standing in water, and offering prasad (prayer offerings) and arghya to the setting and rising sun.
Some devotees also perform a prostration march as they head for the river banks. It starts with Kartik Shukla Chaturthi and ends with Kartik Shukla Saptami.
In Kathmandu, people celebrate this festival in Rani Pokhari and Guheshwori temples.
