Indian Embassy in Nepal celebrates India's 77th Independence Day

The Embassy of India in Kathmandu celebrated its 77th Independence Day today.

The celebration was part of the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav', which was launched by the government of India in March, 2021 to commemorate the historic milestone of 75 years of India's independence, according to the press statement released by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu today.

On the occasion, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava hoisted the Indian national flag and conveyed his greetings to the Indian Diaspora in Nepal.

An address to the nation from the President of India, Draupadi Murmu, was also read out in which the President recalled the scarifies made by freedom fighters of India towards achieving India's freedom and highlighted the country's achievements in various fields.

President Murmu, in her video message, said she had observed a new confidence in the Indian Diaspora towards the India story. Stating that India had been playing a crucial role in promoting developmental and humanitarian goals around the world, she mentioned the leadership role assumed by India in international forums especially in the presidency of G-20.

It may be noted that India is going to host the G-20 leaders' summit in its capital city-New Delhi-on September 9 and 10 this year under its presidency.

Likewise, the Embassy felicitated widows and next of kin of deceased Gorkha soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces by disbursing their dues worth Rs 53.3 million, the press statement read.

The celebration witnessed renditions of patriotic songs and performances by the students of Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre of the Embassy and Kendriya Vidyalaya in Kathmandu.
