The government of Japan has provided ICU and medical supplies to the Sankhu-based Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital.
The ICU inauguration ceremony was organized in the Hospital recently in the presence of Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Kikuta Yutaka and former Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala, also the founding patron of the Hospital, and local representatives as well as hospital staffs among others.
The Hospital has been treating burn patients through plastic surgery since its establishment in 1997. It is a charitable service-oriented social organization focusing on providing burn care to downtrodden patients.
On the inaugural of the ICU, former Deputy Prime Minister Koirala recalled that her mother succumbed to burn injuries and lack of timely treatment and said that the Hospital was established with the sentiment that no Nepali should die due to burns.
Over 24,000 patients have availed surgeries and 450,000 patients have been treated in the Hospital so far, it was shared.
Similarly, Japanese envoy Yutaka expressed his confidence that the 'small' support from the government of Japan would play a 'big' role in protecting the lives of burn patients in Nepal.
Hospital's medical director Dr Bikram Bhandari said that the ICU and other medical supplies provided by the government of Japan would further support in treatment of the burn patients.
The Hospital, in addition to providing care to burn caused by electricity, fire and acid, also provides other specialized services on a daily basis.
