The dispute between Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB) of India and local residents of Sundarnagar in Dodhara Chandani Municipality, Kanchanpur district has been settled for now.
A joint meeting of administrative officers and security officials in the districts along the Nepal-India border held on Wednesday settled the dispute.
The dispute erupted as the SSB did not allow Narayan Adhikari, local resident of Sundarnagar, to cultivate turmeric in the field. The situation had come closer to the point of tension as the dispute arose. Subsequently, the security officials initiated a discussion with the SSB to settle the matter.
Kanchanpur's Chief District Officer Ram Kumar Mahato; Superintendent of Armed Police Force of Nepal, Bir Bahadur Aira and officials of SSB held a discussion in Sundarnagar to solve the issue. Also present in the meeting were local representatives including Dodhara Chandani Municipality Mayor Bir Bahadur Sunar.
In the meeting, the SSB had an agreement to allow the Adhikari family to cultivate turmeric in the field. The Indian officials have been claiming that the land used by the family is located in no man's land. However, the Adhikari family have stated that they have the land ownership certificate of the field they have been cultivating.
Last year, the officials from both Nepal and Indian sides made an agreement not to allow cultivation in no man's land. However, it has been learnt that the SSB have been coming to the land belonging to Nepal and obstructing the cultivation.
Inspector of APF, Krishna Bahadur Bohara said the SSB had an agreement to allow the family to cultivate in the field. Prior to his also, the SSB had stopped the Adhikari family from cultivating in the land.
Moreover, two years ago, tension ran high in Sundarnagar in a dispute over using the no man's land as a road.
Likewise, SSB have been obstructing the construction of culvert along the outer ring road in Brahmed, Bhamdatta Municipality-9 and the tarmacking of Postal Highway in Belauri Municipality in Kanchanpur
