Burglars shoot landlady, make off with property worth Rs three lakh in Mahottari

Critically injured receiving treatment at hospital

A group of unidentified persons looted property worth Rs 300,000 after shooting the house owner in Loharpatti Municipality-6 of Mahottari district on Monday night.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Dinesh Kumar Acharya at Mahottari District Police Office informed that a gang of five persons broke into the house of Rajkaran Mahato and shot at his wife before making off with jewellery, cash and other valuables.

SP Acharya said that landlady Gayatri Mahato shouted for help as the looters broke into the house. However, the gang shot at her to coerce the family members.

Critically injured, Gayatri has been receiving treatment at Janakpur Province Hospital, police said.

Gold jewellery items including necklace and ring, mobile phone sets, and cash Rs 25,000, were taken away by the looters.  Property worth Rs 300,000 were looted by the burglars.

Meanwhile, police recovered a homemade pistol and shells. The search is on for the culprits while the investigation is underway, SP Acharya informed.
