Literary writer Taranath Sharma passes away

Veteran writer Taranath Sharma has died at the age of 87 today. He was popularly known as Tana Sharma.

Born in Barbot, Ilam on June 23, 1934, he was a leader of the 'Zarrawadi Movement' and has written dozens of works in various genres including essays, short stories, novels, and critiques. Dr Sharma received the 'Madan' Award in 1969 for his journey to the UK and the 'Sajha' Award in 1972 for his work 'Sam and Samka'. He was even given a lifetime membership by the Nepal Pragya Pratisthan.

He was also a textbook writer. Member Secretary of Nepal Pragya Pratisthan Prof. Jagat Prasad Upadhyaya said that the demise of the late Sharma had caused irreparable damage to the field of Nepali literature. Sharma's funeral is being held at 12 noon today at Pashupati Aryaghat.
