The Manav Sewa Ashram and Ani Choying Drolma Foundation are together launching a special campaign from October 14 to November 20 around the main theme of "nobody will have to live on streets in this year's festivals".

The special campaign aims to rescue the vulnerable, impoverished, disabled, homeless, physically weak or mentally or psychologically challenged people who are forced to live miserable lives in the open sky street-banks and public places, to reunite them with their families and to celebrate festivals like Dashain, Tihar, Chhath with them.

Manav Seva Ashram's central president Ramji Adhikari said that the campaign will be run in 46 districts adjoining the East-west Highway from Mechi in the east to Mahakali in the west, and some districts of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.

He said unlike in the past years when this campaign was launched in the winter season, this time it is being conducted targeting the major festivals of Nepali.

According to him, around 300 underprivileged and helpless people will be rescued under this special campaign. Chairperson of the Ani Choying Drolma Foundation, Ani Choying Drolma, will also be involved in this programme this time to make the campaign even more effective.

Adhikari said that Drolma will be managing all the expenses for the campaign. Philanthropist Drolma said that she joined this campaign as there is no other religion greater than service to humankind.

The Ashram is operating 24 service centres in 19 districts of all seven provinces of the country. More than 8,000 people have been rescued and 1,600 individuals are under their custody at present. Among them, around 100 are children while 1,000 are people with mental issues. ---
