House of Representatives (HoR) member and Nepali Congress central member Padeep Poudel has said media role is vital to promote good governance.
In his address to an inaugural session of the fourth convention of the Nepal Press Union (NPU), Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) chapter at the RSS central office on Friday, the NC leader said political parties as well as media were expected to play a crucial role in strengthening good governance in the society.
"Corruption is not tolerated under any circumstances and the achievement of good governance remains impossible until a policy of zero tolerance against corruption is established," he mentioned.
Also speaking on the occasion, RSS Executive Chair Dharmendra Jha said the RSS management was working to further strengthen the organisation, making it compatible with time and more competitive in the media industry. "Preparations are going on to diversify the RSS newsroom with the launching of news in other languages besides Nepali and English."
RSS General Manager Siddha Raj Rai claimed that the RSS management lately focused on career development and the promotion of institutional interests.
RSS former Chair Kulchandra Wagle realised that the RSS was carrying out its roles and responsibilities seriously and competitively amidst its limited resources.
Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Chair Bipul Pokhrel urged journalists to prioritise the civic issues while Nepal Press Union President Shiva Lamsal spoke of the need of improving skills and capacity of journalists.
Nepal Press Union former Chair Ramesh Toofan wished for the success of the event while NPU RSS chapter acting Chair Purna Prasad Mishra said the Union was committed to the improvements of press freedom, rule of law and the rights of working journalists since its establishment.
Federation of Nepali Journalists ( FNJ) RSS chapter chair Pabitra Gurgain, Press Chautari RSS chapter former chair Kalika Khadka and Press Centre Nepal RSS chapter chair Ratna Krishna Shrestha echoed the need of unity among institutions meant for the promotion of the rights of journalists to face collective challenges and meet the collective interests.
