MoHP reports 1,024 new COVID-19 cases, 9 deaths on Saturday

Nationwide COVID tally hits 768,295; death toll reaches 10,818

A total of 12 children in a village in Parbat have been found to be infected with the coronavirus.

The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) Saturday confirmed the detection of 1,024 new cases of coronavirus infection. With this, the COVID count has reached 768,295. Additionally, 244 persons have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the antigen test.

Likewise, the MoHP has recorded 9 deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. The ministry on May 19 recorded 246 deaths, the highest daily number. As of Saturday, the nationwide death toll from COVID-19 has reached 10,818. Presently, there are 31,826 active cases in Nepal.

Meanwhile, the three districts of Kathmandu valley have recorded 386 cases in the past 24 hours. Kathmandu logged 289 cases, Lalitpur logged 53 cases and Bhaktapur logged 44 cases, as per the data released by the MoHP.

As many as 2,195 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. As of Saturday, a total of 725,651 people have recovered from the viral disease, the data released by the MoHP showed. Presently, the recovery rate stands at 94.5 per cent while the fatality rate is 1.5 per cent.

Earlier, the MoHP on Friday had reported 1,357 cases of coronavirus infection that had taken the nationwide tally to 767,271.

As of Saturday, a total of 3,952,942 people have undergone the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 31,826 people staying in isolation while 274 others have been placed in quarantine in the country.

Meanwhile, 2,155,505 people have been administered the first dose of AstraZeneca vaccines and 1,227,309 have been vaccinated with the booster dose. Likewise, 3,317,288 people have been vaccinated with the first dose of the Vero Cell vaccine while 2,196,970 others have received the second dose as of September 3, 2021, the Ministry's data showed. Similarly, a total of 1,371,094 persons — 193,640 in Province 1; 274,429 in Province 2; 345,039 in Bagmati Province; 103,211 in Gandaki Province; 253,548 in Lumbini Province, 67,833 in Karnali Province, and 133,394 in Sudurpaschim Province — have been vaccinated with single-shot Janssen vaccines.

Meanwhile, 107,598 vaccines doses have been administered in the last 24 hours, as per the health ministry report.

More than 219.51 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 4,730,000 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in 2019-December, COVID-19 Global tracker data shown by Reuters. It has been reported that COVID-19 infections are still rising in 69 countries where The United States is the new hotspot of COVID-19 facing a daily surge of rapid infections.
