MoHP reports 4,961 new COVID cases, 3 deaths on Sunday

The COVID-19 variant found in India has been reported in Memphis, United States.

The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) on Sunday confirmed the detection of 4,961 new cases of coronavirus infection. With this, the COVID count has reached 853,738. Additionally, 427 persons have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in the antigen test.

Likewise, the MoHP has recorded 3 deaths from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours. The ministry on May 19 recorded 184 deaths, the highest daily number. As of Saturday, the nationwide death toll from COVID-19 has reached 11,620. Presently, there are 21,584 active cases in Nepal.

Meanwhile, the three districts of Kathmandu valley have recorded 3,347 cases in the past 24 hours. Kathmandu logged 2,545 cases, Lalitpur logged 474 cases and Bhaktapur logged 328 cases, as per the data released by the MoHP.

As many as 435 patients of COVID-19 have recovered in the past 24 hours. As of Sunday, a total of 816,438 people have recovered from the viral disease, the data released by the MoHP showed. Presently, the recovery rate stands at 96.1 per cent while the fatality rate is 1.4 per cent.

Earlier, the MoHP Saturday confirmed the detection of 3,703 new cases of coronavirus infection.

As of Sunday, a total of 5,004,234 people have undergone the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test. Presently, there are 25,680 people staying in isolation while 121 others have been placed in quarantine in the country.

More than 320.96 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus worldwide while at least 5,539,206 people have died from COVID-19, following an outbreak that started in Wuhan, China, in 2019-December, COVID-19 Global tracker data shown by Reuters. It has been reported that COVID-19 infections are still rising in 132 countries where The United States is the new hotspot of COVID-19 facing a daily surge of rapid infections.
