Monsoon disaster: Rs 13.8 million released for compensation to victim families

The District Disaster Management Funds have been provided compensation amount so that they would give Rs 200,000 each as compensation to the families of 69 people who lost their lives in monsoon disaster.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, a total of Rs 13.8 million was allotted so far and some of the districts had already distributed the monetary relief to the victim families.

More than 125 were killed in monsoon related disaster so far. Of them, the highest number of human causalities was from landslide, flood and lightning. The security bodies rescued 125 people who were at high risk due to disaster following the heavy rainfall across the country, added the Authority.

Spokesperson of the Authority, Dr Dijan Bhattarai said the people were rescued from Taplejung, Okhaldhunga, Kalikot, Bajhang, among others from helicopter.

Releasing a report on Friday about the situation of monsoon disaster of one month, the Authority mentioned that the District and Local Disaster Management Committees, Nepal Red Cross as well as other organisations distributed food stuffs and other goods to the affected families.

Similarly, Rs 15,000 to 20,000 was immediately distributed as a relief to the monsoon disaster affected families, reads the report.

He further shared activities related to disaster management were underway in a coordinated manner. Heavy rainfall has caused huge loss of lives and property in the first month of monsoon season this year.
