More than 8 billion worth paddy crop destroyed

More than 8 billion worth of paddy crops have been destroyed throughout the country due to unseasonal rainfall. Rainfall during the harvest season has swept away paddy crops that were ready to be harvested.

 According to the statstics by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, RS 8, 268,000000 worth paddy crops have been destroyed throughout the country. According to the Ministry, Lumbini Province has faced the most destruction; the province alone faced a destruction of Rs 4,510,000000 worth of paddy crops.

After the Lumbini province, the Sudurpaschim province comes in number 2 in the destruction list. Rs 1,910,000000 worth paddy crops were destroyed in the province. Bagmati province reported a loss of Rs 580,00000 worth of paddy crops which is the least among other provinces.

The Ministry reported that a total of 325,258 metric tons of paddy has been destroyed throughout the country. Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Saptari, Siraha, Sarlahi, Chitwan, Nuwakot, Nawalparasi, Syangja, Rupandehi, Bardiya, Kapilvastu, Banke, Surkhet, Dolpa, Jumla, Salyan, Kailali and Kanchanpur are among the districts most affected by flood. According to the Ministry, the unseasonal rainfall has affected 15 districts of 3 provinces the most.

According to the Ministry, Palpa, Gulmi, Nawalparasi, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Dang, Banke, Rukum east, Pyuthan are the most affected districts of Lumbini province. 161,223 metric ton of Paddy has been destroyed in the province.

Loss of 48,468 metric ton paddy in Bardiya, 40,645 metric ton in Kapilvastu, 24,361 metric ton in Rupandehi, 4,128 metric ton in Nawalparasi, 10,745 metric ton in Dang, 4,435 metric ton in Pyuthan and 678 metric ton in Palpa has been reported.

Assording to the Ministry, Kailali and Kanchanpur districts of the Sudurpaschim province have been affected the most. 70,000 hectares of paddy in Kailali and 44 hectares in Kanchanpur have been destroyed. 340,000 metric ton paddy has been destroyed in Kailali while 187,000 metric ton has been destroyed in Kanchanpur.

The unseasonal rain hit Nepal during the harvest season. The farmers had to bear a huge loss as floods swept away ripe paddy crops.
