Muskan Khatun has been awarded the International Women of Courage Trophy 2021.
Khatun, an activist working to end acid attacks in the country, is herself an acid attack victim, she was attacked at the age of 15.
The award was handed over by US Ambassador Berry, alongside First Lady Deuba, activist and Member of Constituent Assembly, Dr Arzu Rana Deuba. Muskan and Ambassador Berry have been urging parliamentary approval of the 2020 acid attack and rape ordinances.
The event brought together established and emerging women leaders from all backgrounds, including pioneers like Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki, Supreme Court Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla, Nepali Congress whip Pushpa Bhusal, Bhumika Shrestha, Feminist Dalit Organization Renu Sijapati, and Prensa Regmi.
