Nepal to administer second dose of Covishield from Tuesday

The government is set to continue the vaccination drive by administering the second dose of 'Covishield' vaccine from Tuesday.

The second dose of vaccines under the vaccination drive has a target to inoculate those who have received the first dose during a period between January 27 to February 22 (Magh 14- Falgun 10), Dr Jhalak Sharma Gautam, chief of Child Health and Vaccination Section, Department of Health Services was quoted in Rastraya Samachar Samiti as saying.

Those who have received the first dose of 'Covishield' vaccine can visit the vaccination centres accessible for them from April 20 to 24 (Baisakh 7-11) to take the second dose. The government had administered the 'Covishield' obtained from the Government of India as a grant.

Those who were administered the first dose from January 27-29 (Magh 14-16) and February 9-11 (Magh 27-29 ) will be provided with the second dose on Baisakh 7 (April 20).

Similarly, those receiving the first dose from January 31- February 4 ( Magh 18-22) and February 14 (on Falgun 2) will be given the second dose on April 21.

April 22 (Baisakh 9 ) is for those who had received the first dose on February 5 (Magh 23) and from February 15-17 (Falgun 3-5) and April 23 (Baisakh 10) is for the day for those who had been given the first dose on February 6 (Magh 24 ),  February 18 (Falgun 6), February 20 (Falgun 8) and on February 21 (Falgun 9).

April 24 (Baisakh 11) has been set for those receiving the first dose on February 12 (Magh 30 ), on February 19 (Falgun 7) and on  February 22 (Falgun 10).

The Ministry of Health and Population has set up vaccination centres at different hospitals in the Kathmandu Valley. About 1.8 million people have received the first dose.

'Vero Cell' given to 123,000 population

Meanwhile, the ''Vero Cell'' the anti-coronavirus vaccine manufactured by the Government of China was administered to 123,000 people. According to Dr Gautam, people of 40-59 age group from Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Kavrepalanchowk and Sindhupalchowk received the vaccine during the campaign from April 7- 17 (Chaitra 25- Baisakh 5).

''Vero Cell'' will be made available for the population after the completion of the second-phase drive.
