Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has expressed sorrow over the demise of the leader of party and former member of parliament Shankar Prasad Upreti. He was 88.
Upreti passed away in Kathmandu last night. In his message of condolence today, President Deuba said with the passing away of Upreti, he lost his old friend, the party lost a dedicated member and the society lost a stalwart philanthropist.
Extending heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family, he paid tribute to the late leader. Upreti who was the National Assembly member for six years, representing the NC after 2046 political change in the country was jailed time again for protesting against the then party-less Panchayat regime.
He had an active role in the country's democratic movements and had begun his medical career in 2018 BS from Dhangadhi, Kailali. He also provided medical service from his private clinic at Sanischare of Jahapa for around 50 years. Many had been benefitted from his free service over the long course of his medical journey.
His last rites were performed at the Pashupati Aryaghat today. He is survived by a son Prof Dr Sanjib Upreti.
