Budget provides Rs 12bn to PM Employment Programme

The government has allocated Rs 12 billion with an aim to provide employment to an additional 200,000 people under the Prime Minister Employment Programme in the next fiscal year.

Presenting the budget for next fiscal year 2021/22 today, Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel said the PM Employment Programme will be restructured. He stated that youths registered at the Employment Service Centre will be provided minimum 100 days of employment under the programme.

The government had allocated Rs 10 billion for the PM Employment Programme in the current fiscal year. Eighty thousand unemployed people had received minimum employment opportunity under this programme, which was launched in fiscal year 2020/21.

Similarly, the government itself will deposit the contribution amount of those registered at the Social Security Fund for the duration of the prohibitory period. Finance Minister Poudel said the government will deposit the contribution amount for the months of Baisakh and Jestha.

Last year too, the government had deposited the contribution amount of the contributors for the prohibitory period in the fund.
