The Supreme Court has refused to issue an interim order on a writ petition filed regarding the number of ministers in Sudurpaschim Province. A joint bench of Justices Deepak Kumar Karki and Kumar Regmi today stated that there was no reason to issue an interim order on the issue.
The justices said that since the writ included issues related to Article 168 (9) of the Constitution of Nepal there was no need to issue an interim order. Advocates Kamal Singh Rana, Apekchya Niroula and Suresh Rokaya had filed a writ at the Supreme Court stating that the number of ministers in Sudurpaschim Province exceeded 20 per cent of the total number of members in the National Assembly.
The advocates had filed the writ mentioning that the total number of seats in the National Assembly was 52 but the number of ministers was 11, which is against Article 168.
On June 13, a single bench of Justice Hari Krishna Karki had sought a written reply from the government of Sudurpaschim Province on the same writ.
