Sindhuli reports 1st death from COVID 2nd wave

An 80-year-old woman of Tinpatan Rural Municipality-2, in Sindhuli district who was in home isolation with the coronavirus infection, died on Friday morning, confirmed Sindhuli Hospital’s chair Prhalad Pokhrel.

This is the first death in the district from the second wave of coronavirus. Presently, there are 95 active cases in the district. The highest cases (47) are in the Kamalamai municipality followed by 29 in Dudhauli municipality, 13 in Sunkoshi rural municipality, three in Tinpatan, two in Marin rural municipality and one in the Phikkal rural municipality.

Meantime, two local levels have implemented a lockdown order against the virus. The Dudhauli Municipality has announced the lockdown till May 12, beginning from today while Golanjar rural Municipality went into lockdown on Sunday and it shall remain in effect till May 9. Both local levels have closed all services except the most essential ones.

Likewise, the distribution of national identity cards has been temporarily suspended following the detection of the virus in the district. A meeting held Sunday under the chair of District Disaster Management Committee chair and Chief District Officer Suresh Neupane decided to recommend the postponement of the national cards distribution campaign for the time being.

The meeting has decided to urge all local levels to speed up contact tracing, further systematize oxygen plants in Covid hospitals and bring the Apollo Hospital’s isolation ward into operation, according to CDO Neupane.
