Resuming virtual classes in the schools in rural areas of Sarlahi district has been a challenge owing to a number of reasons.
All the educational institutions have been asked to resume teaching and learning activities through alternative mediums and virtually in the second wave of COVID-19, but lack of technology and internet access among students have made it difficult for the schools in many remote places in the district.
Amid this, Barahathawa Municipality in Sarlahi district has devised an education reform plan and has implemented it within the Municipality ensuring the continuation of the teaching-learning activities employing alternative methods.
Either of the alternative mediums such as telephone, radio, TV, SMS and internet among others have been employed to teach the students. The students have formed a group and reach out to teachers virtually in groups with the technical support provided by the Municipality.
The local unit here has been coordinating efforts with the teachers’ association, school management committees and UNICEF to make sure no student is deprived of learning opportunities when schools were running virtual classes.
The parents' group also notify the related teachers about the study progress of their children at home.
Mayor Devananda Mahato shared that Municipality’s technical support has eased many schools and students to continue with teaching-learning activities during the pandemic.
