The agitating contractual and temporary employees of Triyuga municipality in Gaighat of the district have padlocked the municipality's office and obstructed its works since the last five days. They are staging a sit-in at the main gate to the municipality's office, calling for their reinstatement after the municipality did not extend their term and expelled them a week back.

None of the municipality's officials could enter their office after the protesting employees locked the main gate on Thursday and Friday. As a result, the people who had come to the municipality office for official works had to return home without their works being done.

"We have been drawing the Mayor Basanta Kumar Basnet's attention to our demands since a week. We were expelled without any reason and we will continue our movement until we are reinstated," said Kripa Ram Chaudhary, the coordinator of the agitating employees.

The Triyuga Municipality has said the 60 temporary, contractual and daily wage employees have been automatically expelled as the Municipality has not extended their term with effect from July 17. Mayor Basnet said the contract and temporary employees ' term was not extended without any prejudice as the Municipality had to bear much financial burden paying such a large number of employees. He said there is no backtracking now that a decision has been made by the Municipality.

The agitating employees have been saying that they will continue with their protest movement, the padlocking and the sit-in, hampering the works at the municipality until they are reinstated as they have been expelled from job without any valid reason.
