Vehicular movement along the Butwal-Narayanghat road section of East-West Highway has again been disrupted from 10:00 am today. The traffic has been disrupted after diversions at Thumsi in Gaidakot were swept away due to floods on Thursday morning caused by incessant rain since Wednesday night.
Earlier on Thursday evening, a new diversion was set up to ease the traffic for motorcycles but that too is disrupted after a tractor fell off the diversion.
Deputy Superintendent of Armed Police Force, Nepal Bir Bhadra Nath, said that works are ongoing to repair the diversion after removing the tractor in an attempt to resume vehicular movement.
Security personnel are trying their best to ensure at least one-way traffic, Nath added.
Hundreds of passenger vehicles and vehicles carrying goods have been stuck midway. Of the seven diversions set up to expand the highway, four have been damaged, the police said.
