Two persons died and 41 others sustained injuries when the bus they were travelling on fell below the road in Sunkoshi Rural Municipality of Sindhupalchowk district today.
Police identified the deceased as Rajan Baram, who appeared to be in his mid-40s, the resident of Thulo Durlung in Lalitpur district and Pawan Karki who appeared to be in his early 20s.
The accident took place when the bus (Ba 3 Kha 8030) belonging to the Koshipari Transport lost control along the downhill road in Sunkoshi-3 at around 11:35 am today, Information Officer at Sindhupalchowk District Police Office (DPO), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Daksha Kumar Basnet told NepalNews. He said the bus veered off the road and plunged about 30 metres killing two persons and injuring 41 others.
The investigation pointed to brake failure as the cause of the accident, police informed.
A total of 43 persons including the driver, his assistant including children among passengers were aboard the bus en route from Bafal to Kathmandu, DSP Basnet informed.
Baram and Karki died in the course of treatment at the Dhulikhel Hospital in Kavrepalanchowk district.
Of the total injured, 18 were receiving treatment at Sadabahar Hospital in Sindhupalchowk, 22 at Dhulikhel Hospital and one at Madhyapur Thimi Hospital in Bhaktapur, DSP Basnet said. Meanwhile, 25 of the injured have been discharged from hospitals.
