Worker missing in hydropower project tunnel route

A worker has gone missing in an accident on the tunnel of the 86 MW Solukhola Dudhkoshi Hydropower Project under construction in Solukhumbu.

According to the police, a laborer went missing and another was injured when a bucket was broken on the way to the tunnel of Hanthulung Dudhkoshi VDC-3. The missing person is Rakesh Chaudhary, 24, of Kolvi Municipality-1, Bara District, said Rishi Raj Dhakal, Inspector at the District Police Office, Solukhumbu. According to him, Angat Rai Tharu, 20, of Paterwa-4 of Parsa district has been rescued and sent to Mission Hospital Okhaldhunga by ambulance for treatment.

According to the police, the four workers went to the middle of the tunnel to lay the penstock pipe. The condition of the other two are normal, said Inspector Dhakal.

Though the search for the missing Chaudhary is continuing, there are problems due to other construction materials, police said. According to the project, machine-operated buckets are used to transport people as well as construction materials inside the tunnel route.
