CPN-UML Parliamentary Party Deputy Leader Subash Chandra Nembang has assured to put the impeachment in motion against Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabra in the party meeting. Understanding the memorandum submitted by the Nepal Bar Association on Monday demanding removal of Jabra by impeachment, Nembang assured to take the bar's proposal to the party chairperson and standing committee meeting.
The bar has been agitating for more than three weeks, accusing CJ of seeking political alliances with the executive. However, Jabra handed over a memorandum to the parties represented in the parliament, including Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota, as there was no change in his resignation.
"The issues raised by the Bar Association are serious. I will immediately submit this memorandum to the Chairman and the Standing Committee today. I have the initiative to draw the attention of the party,” said Nembang.
Stating that he had received formal information about association's movement, he also talked about the use of force by the police on lawyers. Nembang said that the dispute should be resolved within the court but now it has come out.
"It simply came to our notice then. It would have been better if the court and the association had discussed. At present, it is not possible to get justice from the Supreme Court,” he said.
While handing over the memorandum to Nemwang, Bar Chairman Chandeshwar Shrestha said that an impeachment had to be filed as Jabra had said that he would step down as per the provisions of the constitution.
