Three major political parties have urged the president to call for the formation of a majority government, citing Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has been relieved from the post after he lost the vote of confidence in the House of Representatives (HoR) today.

Issuing a joint statement today, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Chairperson of Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal Upendra Yadav urged President Bidhya Devi Bhandari to call for the formation of a majority government as per Article 76 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal.

The statement reads, “We urge the President to initiate the process of appointing Prime Minister as per the Article 76 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal as Oli has been relieved from the post.”

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had sought the vote of confidence as per Article 100 (1) of the Constitution of Nepal after the CPN Maoist Centre withdrew its support to the Oli-led government.

A total of 232 parliamentarians had cast their votes today, in which 93 votes were in support of the prime minister and 124 votes against while 15 other votes cast did not support the proposal of vote of confidence, House Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota had earlier announced after the votes were counted.
