INDIA: Nepal has clinched the title of the International Open Karate Championship organized at Pune of Maharashtra State in India.
Nepal won the title by winning 17 gold medals in different age groups and weight categories in the championship.
The Nepalese players also won five silver and two bronze medals in the championship. Nepali player Rima Kumal won the gold medal in 68-kg weight category while Bipin Rana and Shahil Gurung in 50-kg and 55-kg weight categories.
Similarly, Buddhi Tamang, Neha Shresh, Rajina Darlami, Nikhil Kumal, Diwas Ale, Mohit Thapa, Amisha Pokharel, Diya Chhantyal, Samikshya Darlami, Aditya Gurung, Prabin Bhattarai and Akriti Chhantyal also won the gold medal.
India got 16 gold medals while Sri Lanka won six.
Earlier, Siddhartha Rana won the gold medal in kata performance under the 10-year age group as well as six players towards group-wise kata performance.
General-Secretary of the National Karate Federation of India, Raju Thapa, distributed certificates and shields to the medal winning players. More than 100 players from Nepal, India and Sri Lanka had participated in the championship organized by National Karate Federation of India.
